I ordered the Navy Blue set of place mats thinking they might make our back patio dinners a bit fancier – our patio table is one of those large cast iron ones that are made to look woven, so there are holes everywhere. Placemats are basically a necessity, and having nice, disposable ones seemed like a good idea.I should have paid more attention when ordering – in the image, these looked like blue placemats with a white circle in the middle and a white pinstripe around it. In reality, that white circle is a plate – these are solid blue in the middle – and the pinstripe is actually *gold*, not white. Not a big deal, but something I missed, so I’m pointing it out to spare someone else the same mistake.These aren’t quite as thick or rigid as I expected. They’re thicker than paper, but thinner than most poster board. More like a lighter-weight card stock. The Navy color is very nice, and would fit well for a Cub Scouts dinner (they’re still blue and gold, right?). Unfortunately, the gold pinstripe is a bit limiting. It would have been much nicer to have a black or navy with a white stripe as an option.All that said, from a value perspective there are solid-color scalloped place mats that might be a bit more versatile, for less money. However, if the colors match your scheme (and some of the lighter colors with a white pin stripe might), the extra pinstripe does make it feel a little nicer and it might be worth it to you to spend 50 cents/each. The solid color ones are like half price, though, so if I were to do this again, I’d probably order those instead.

Attractive and super thick
I wasn’t expecting these placemats to be so thick. They’re more like thin cardboard than paper, similar to cereal box thickness, but maybe a bit thinner. They have a smooth surface that doesn’t allow food to leak through. The size is large and gives plenty of area around the plate for your napkins and utensils. I ordered them for our cats, who make a mess with their wet food, and they work perfectly. We used paper towels, but then they try to bury the plates with the sides of the towels, so these placemats are far better. The quality and color (I chose pink) are so nice that I put several mats aside for crafting. For disposables, they are tasteful, elegant, and I highly recommend them for multiple uses.
